Hi,

Does anybody know of a website or other media that would list Dog Shows? Not AKC, I tried that and didn't get the info I was looking for.
(or didn't understand it Embarassed )

We live in Staunton VA and would love to go to one of the shows to see how Arthur would react to all the noise, Dogs, etc. And we would also like to talk to some of the GWP Owners that show their dogs.

Thanks,
Claudia & Walter

Hi Walter & Claudia,

What kind of information did you hope to get regarding the dog shows? The AKC lists all upcoming shows (and past show for 2-3 years) in your state. If you look at the past shows you'll get to see how many wires were shown at a particular event - GWPs don't show up all the time. Here's the direct link to the area of the AKC to look up shows just in case you didn't find the right spot.

http://www.akc.org/dic/events/search/index.cfm

However you specifically asked for other options so here some are. In addition to the AKC are the following sites - these are the organizations that put on the shows. Generally their sites are faster & easier to use.

**It looked as though this group handles a number of the shows in your areas. MB-F Inc http://www.infodog.com/default.htm

Onofrio Dog Shows at: www.onofrio.com

Roy Jones dog show at: http://www.royjonesdogshows.com

I'm afraid that Arthur probably won't be able to attend with you - generally only entered dogs are allowed into the shows. Hope this helps.

Deb

Thanks Deb,

We are intrested in the conformation events since we are not hunting Arthur.
It is intresting to know that we can't bring Arthur. We where at a show in Atlanta and where able to bring Mozart (ECS) with us so the rules must have changed since then. We didn't like how the dogs where handeled in the ring, very rough they almost trough the dogs on the table, so we are wondering if anything has changed since and if it is diferend with biger breeds.

Thanks for the info.

Hi,

I found a Show that is close to our town. Very Happy
It's in Fisherville VA at the Augusta Expo on June 6 03.
Is anybody attending this show?
Please let me know we would love to meet you.

Thanks

At 99.9% of AKC shows, no unentered dogs are allowed and it's been this way since I've been showing dogs (since 1981)

Unfortunately, this rule is only posted in the show premiums (entry forms.)That means only those who may be interested in entering the shows see the rules. So, the general public has no way of knowing their dog isn't really supposed to be there. This causes some hard feelings if they are asked to take their dogs and leave.

That said, there has only been just a few times I have seen the show chairman ask someone with an unentered dog to leave and usually it's because those dogs ( or those people!!) are being disruptive.

So, if your dog is well-behaved and you are polite... and your dog is on a nice training collar with a good quality, 6-foot leather lead (not a thick buckle collar with tags jingling and a 4 foot chain lead... which just screams "I'm a pet and don't belong here"... and please... NO bandanas! Wink ) then you'll probably be OK at the show. Just be aware that the club is well within its rights to ask you to leave, if they figure out you aren't entered.

By the way.. there are several reasons for the no unentered dogs.
1. To prevent people from coming and bringing dogs that aren't vaccinated.

2. to prevent people from bringing puppies they want to try and sell (you may not sell nor offer for sale any dogs at an AKC dog show)

3. To prevent problems with unsocialized dogs suddenly coming into contact with lots and lots of other dogs and people.. and having aggression problems.

Thanks Bbadmin,

So, we where very lucky to have been aloud to bring Mozart to that Show.
But when English Cocker Club fund out what linage he was everybody came by to look at him.

Well, we have already decided to leave the family at home out of the very reasons you just have listed and they do make a lot of sense.

Again, thanks for all the information.
