Thank you! Nice to see an actual hunting forum for the very best hunting dogs on earth!
Howdy, I'm a noob here but have been an owner of a wirehair for about 13 years.
I just received my new puppy about 5 weeks ago. "Ben" my first one passed on last year. I never thought I'd cry over the passing of a dog but I did. My buddy, my hunting partner!
Ben came from a breeder who had Ben until I got him at a year and a half old. (or so) I think he was returned to the breeder but I'm not sure. Anyways my point is this. After some needed attention and loving, Ben was the best hunting dog I ever had. Duck blind and ducks to upland birds, he was awesome. Cool, calm and collected. He lived in the house w/ us and was a friend to all, humans and animals.
What a hunting machine!
With love and patience even an older GW can make a great pet and diverse hunter!

I'll have to scan an old photo of my old buddy Ben and his big goose hunt and post it.
In the meantime here is "Anya"

It's not bird hunting, but hunting....
Here's my GWP Weasie at 12 yrs with her 42nd groundhog. Just a little bittty one this time.

Yea, they do love to "hunt" whatever and everything!

This photo was taken back in 1997 when we first got Ben from the breeder who said he "probably will not retrieve ducks off of water as he had only worked Ben in the field for Chuckar.
That is my son at 12 years old, first duck hunt with our new dog back in 97'. We were hunting a local pond on a very sunny day. There was that one lonely ruddy on the pond.
Ben was about 1-1/2 or 2 at that time w/ onoly a litle yard training.

boatfixx.. how old was your pup in these pics? My little girl is 14 to 15 weeks and no where near as hairy..

Holy frick.. i know there are different hairyness of coats, Just wondering what age his pup is in those pics. Cause i would like a more hairy one the next time for our coldish winters up here. Just trying to compare..

Great pictures of the pup. I have a 4 year old GWP, and we hunt anything that flies. Dove, Quail, Pheasant, Grouse, Ducks about anywhere in the mid-west. (Tied to post a pic here, but I got lost.) Good luck with the pup.

First post here. This is from a few years ago.

Nick is 13 now and his hunting days are pretty well over. Our new pup Brue who is 18 months will have her first full on hunting season this year.
