I just lost an excellent GWP and have begun my search for a pup. Please reply if you can give me a lead on dogs that match my "wish list".
My departed pal was a 1988 Leiben-waid dog from "Curry" (Akins Curran) x Ally (Alina von Leiben-waid). I was very impressed with conformation, personality, and hunting skills of these dogs (mine was great), but the breeders are no longer in the business. Ideally, I'd like to find this lineage to start my search.
What I am looking for:
Male or female, breed standard size, medium coat length, bidable temperament for "walking man's dog"
Stock that meets OFA passable hips and elbows, eyes OK by CERF.
Working dog that will work in water for waterfowl, point and retrieve upland birds, and keeps a bed warm at night.
Breeders should supply references to clients. I will be in Wisconsin during late May and would enjoy meeting some GWP prospects. I also may be able to visit WA, OR, and CA to explore possibilities.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
P.S. Wire-hairs do very well here and are an endless source of pride in mixing with the sled dog and Labrador crowds!
