If you are needing help placing a dog or have a rescue in your area, please contact Laura Myles ljmyles@verizon.net as the National Coordinator of the GWPCA rescue or my group GWP Rescue, Inc. Murr41@yahoo.com We all work together, have foster homes, and can help with referral if you have possession of your dog during the process. We may place them on Petfinder, or on the website. Before we can take a dog into our network, we must have a photo, an evaluation filled out, and the Board of Directors is consulted.....set up a possible foster home...make arrangements for spay/neuter of the dog, transport to foster home or boarding facility, so a lot must be done.

We are very careful about screening all applicants, and we fit the home and lifestyle of the applicant to the dog. The new owners must committ to training the dog, obedience classes if necessary, and we do home visits. So please see your rescue page, and contact the National Rescue if you need Very Happy help.

Thanks!
Mary Murray

As approved by the GWPCA Board, the GWP Rescue Inc and the GWPCA
Rescue work together. However it seems that there is still alot of
confusion as to how to to get assistance with a dog. Once a person
has made the difficult decision to not keep their dog it is is better that
they recieve the emails/links of the rescue organizations than releasing the dog to a shelter/impound facility. Mary's email provided this info.

As the GWPCA Rescue coordinator I have found this to be a frustrating
"job", especially when there seems to be a lack of support by the membership letting people know that there is an active rescue
program. There is a link on the HOME PAGE saying RESCUE. We link to
both petfinders and the gwp rescue, inc which maintains many photos of gwp's needing homes.

Without the gwpca memberships support and encouragment to use the rescue link, the public can not find help with their dog, nor can we find homes for rescues without breeders/members letting inquiries know that this is an option on how to get a dog.

Some of these dogs are special needs kids. However we do now screen what dogs are accepted into the program in an attempt to prevent dogs that aren't suitable from being accepted. There are dogs that are in the program due to no fault of their own, through divorce, becoming a teenage gwp, or death in a family. Some can be hunted, or have the potential to be trained as gun dogs with the same work any young dog would take.

Do support GWPCA Rescue!

Hmm, Dan is there someway that the body of Mary's email is simply there
when the rescue chat is opened up. The more I think about it maybe in BOTH places, the rescue chat and the rescue page too?? Kill two birds with one email. Laughing
