| My groomer is unfamiliar with how to groom a German Wire-Haired Pointer and has asked me locate directions and photos for her. Our dog is 10 months old and will be going to the groomer for the first time. Can anyone direct me to a site that help me and the groomer achieve a good result for our prize pup? Thanks. |

| I have never had a GWP that required more than bath and good brushing. But if your dog's hair is on the longer side and you didn't want to strip out the excess hair I guess you could have them groomed like an airedale. I have seen wirehairs clipped like that in the summer. When you clip a wire coat it does make the hair grow in softer and the color duller. But they do look a lot like a groomed airedale when clipped like one. With a beard and longer hair on the legs and bottom of the chest. It isn't that hard to stip out some of the coat along the back and sides if you just wanted to shorten the coat a little. And then it would keep the wire texture. |

If your groomer is not familar with hand stripping a terrier type of coat she will have a difficult time doing your dog correctly. I suggest you find a groomer that knows how to strip.
You can clip, but in the long run you will be sorry. The coat texture will change, get soft, change color and in the long run be more difficult to keep up with.
The body pattern is similar to a terriers.... schnauzer or airdale is a guide that can be followed. |
