Took Abby to the vet today for her annual physical (2 year) and shots. I was amazed when she weighed in at 74.5 lbs!
Abby is 25 inches from hip to foot. She is pure GWP, but has german and not domestic lines.
Is this a normal size for this dog? It seems from what I have read she should be smaller for a female. This girl is ALL muscle. The vet says she is in excellent condition and said she is neither too fat nor too thin.
Just curious. |

Hi-
The breed standard states the height of a male to be 24-26 inches at the withers (top of shoulders) with females being smaller but not under 22 inches. Depending on any slope Abby may have in her topline, and you stating the 25 inches is from the hip, she may actually be taller than that.
Depending on bone size, your girl may be just fine in weight for her height. If you run your hands lightly down her sides you want to be able to feel her ribs, and if you stand over her and look down at her, she should have a defined waistline behind her ribs.
Hope this helps some, each dog is an individual, but if your veterinarian says she looks great, I'd go with that. |
