You should not expose your 10 mouth old puppy to gun fire in the field until it has been exposed to loud noises and gun fire in a safe and comfortable environment.Starting with soft noise's and working louder only if the dog is able to tolerate the noises with out any signs of distress . A good rule of thumb is start with soft noises at a distance,(but be doing something with the puppy that it in joys like eating or playing). Make it so the puppy will need to stop doing something it likes to do to pay attention to the noise. If the puppy seems at tall distressed with the noise back it off until puppy is comfortable with this noise. Take it very very slow a little to much rushing at this point in the game could Rowan your dog for ever.
As fare as the Not pointing thing goes, do your yard work and have the dog under control in the field IE on a check cord or only have birds in the field your dog will not be able to catch (birds in a trap or wild birds).
Most problems are caused be rushing and not laying a good foundation.
Good luck

Lots more information is needed in order to help you.
What type of training are you doing with this puppy?
What kind of exposure on birds (and what kind of birds) are you doing?
What is she doing when you are shooting the gun?
If she isn't pointing birds, why are you shooting a gun?

At 10 months, your pup should be working on a check cord around birds. That way you have control and can help her learn what she is and isn't to do. If she has caught a lot of birds, you are going to have to back up and get really good flying birds (homing pigeons are perfect for this) that she can't catch. And if she is on a check cord, you will be able to stop her.

Pointing should be a natural instinct in this breed,, but some have more point in them then others. The ones with less pointing instinct need help learning what it's all about.

Shooting over a puppy that has no idea what the gun means is a surefire way to make them gun shy. Stop shooting around her now. You will have another 12 yrs with this dog, take your time, there's no rush!

Find a group near you to lend a hand. A local NAVHDA chapter, or a GWP club in your area would be a good place to start.
