I have a 14 week pup with no real noticable beard right now...He has some long wavy hair on his top line some fringe on his legs but nothing really long. When should I give up hopes of beard??? I have noticed some longer chin hairs growing but nothing very coarse...Since he is braun most people think he is a lab!!!Yikes!!!

If you are seeing some longer hairs on his back and legs, he should have body coat. Are you seeing any fringes, long hairs around his lips or on the edges of his ears?
If so, it will come. It may never be long and bushy, but that's a good thing!

Many of the solid livers take longer for the coat to grow. You will know for sure by the time he is 8 months or so.
Best to you and you pupppy!

Well, at six months my little guy still has no beard.. I guess I just except him as a slick!!! I have so many people say, "Great Lab you have" or "That a nice shorthair"..so I give up....One thing nice is he has TONS of drive and has no burrs to clean-up.....

we hunted hard yesterday, spent a half hour picking burrs out of my Brittany, couldn't find a single one in the coat of Kita, to my surprise.
first day out she was a knucklehead. second day out she was 200% better, and she has me looking forward to more field time.

Your dog might benefit from a proper coat stripping for the field, imho.
It will make clean up so much easier or next to nothing.

A Stipping knife or a product called the Furminator is great, for coat stripping.
I do about every 3 months but not after October, until Spring.

I often cut hair around the feet and/or legs (Feathering) as well.
This can also be done around the ears-a little trim, be very careful not to knick the ear, just the hair feathering.

The Perfect Wire coat is maintenance free but not every dog has the perfect coat, certainly not mine

7mo old Duke has these long eye lash, looking hairs that hang down into his eye. I want to trim them, wife says I shouldn't...any thoughts?

You can... I dont usually, and 7mo is very young.
I just get the stripping knife and take it right over the eyebrows to remove the long dead stuff.

If theres alot of excess left, you might trim 1/2 inch or so..so he can see!

Only place I scissor trim is along the back of the legs, backside (anus) and the feet around winter time, to prevent balls from the snow.
Everything else is just stripped via knife or furminator.
I only groom about 3xs a year. Pretty easy at that.

Post pic of before and after if you like.
