My husband would like to breed our 2.5 year old female lab in the next year or two. He wanted to do it this Spring but with our rescued GWP male, those plans changed.
The GWP male "Baron" is also 2.5 years old and we've had him since Sept 2003. Baron and the female lab are great buddy's and are with each other all the time. I am concerned about Baron's reaction to a litter of puppies from another male dog. Baron was neutered at the shelter when he was 2.
The puppies would be in the house - where we all live - kids, dogs, cat...
I've never seen Baron hurt anything but he does give our cat "the eye" (the cat hasn't come down to the first floor of our house in over 2 years - since we got the lab as a puppy - dogs first floor, cat second floor). He did catch a bird in the yard, but just walked around the yard with it in his mouth - didn't kill it. But, he is very intense when it comes to furry critters - squirrels, rabbits (and probably cats if he could) so I'm concerned about puppies.
Any suggestions or am I just worrying for no reason. |
