Wirehair pups showing up in petshops for adoption really, really irks me!!!
But, another thing that irks me, and I really question the integrity of supposedly "reputable" breeders, is pups being donated to sportsmens' groups for raffle prizes. Isn't this highly frowned upon by GWPCA to the point they would do something about it? |

| I agree with you if you want to raffle an animal it should be a stuffed animal , a picture, or statue, not a live animal!! and the people that sell to pet shops shouldn't even be a breeder! |

In Canada, a breeder is prohibited by the CKC from selling to pet stores or raffling puppies, or dropping dogs at a shelter.
A pet store therefore cannot sell pups with papers. Am I right to understand than in the States, Pet stores do give AKC papers? Does the AKC agrees with a breeder selling to pet stores? |

Hello
I am not familiar with the CKC, so I must ask, how do they police the breeders? Is it the honour system? Or are there ways of preventing so called reputable breeders from dropping animals at shelters, pet shops, etc.?
The AKC has stated quite often that they are not in business to police the breeds, that is up to the breed clubs. They are simply a registration office.

How sad! Yes, the CKC has a very simple way to track a dog: all dogs must be tattooed or chipped prior to leaving the breeder's home. Forthermore, a Pet Store would not be able to register a pup or transfer the paper to a purchaser. Thus, even assuming that the breeder gave the papers to the pet shop owner, the papers would be lost at that point. The mere number of registration to this person would be enough for the CKC to send one of his representative in the area to check out what is going on. Furthermore, breeders, CKC members in good standing do not see the selling of a purebred dog in a petstore in a very good eye, and will report it to the CKC in a second...
I know I would. |
