Have any of you used a stripping stone to get rid of the fine whispy hairs on your GWP?
We are trying to get Gunner ready to show in December and since he is our first wirehair I am a little nervous about the way we are grooming him.
We have been told he has a great coat that will need little maintenance but he does have those light brown whispy hairs on his ears. He had some on his head too but with vigilance most of them are gone. I used the stripping stone on his head and ears and it took lots of those hairs out.
Now I can tell the hair on his ears is getting a little thin due to all the pulling. Will the hair grow back hard like the rest of his coat if we keep these whispy's pulled or is the hair on the ears always soft and whispy?
Thanks for your patience!

I don`t have any advice for you but I am curious about the "stripping stones" you are using??? I have stripping combs & stripping knives, but have never heard of the stones before. What are they made of and where did you buy them? I assume they are used much like the other strippers?
I don`t show my dog`s but I am always looking for easier way`s to groom them. _________________ Loyd Tollett

Stripping stones are pumice stones. You can buy them at the store in the pedicure area as they are most commonly used for removing callouses on people's feet.
A little trick I learned from my cattle showing days is that you can also buy it by the brick at restaurant supply stores. There it's called a "griddle brick" and is alot cheaper.
Stripping stones work great, but you may need to bathe the dog after using it extensively as the pumice will sometimes leave a grit in the coat.
As for hair on the ears, it is never as hard as the body coat, but it will certainly come back. I usually take it off with a stone as well.
