GWPCA Board of Directors Teleconference Meeting
Date: 4-11-06 Time 5:35 PST

Attendees: Mark Sargent, Sue Mueller, Laura Reeves, Liz Dixon, Charlie Kissinger, Sarah Herz
Absent: Ray Calkins due to no notice received of meeting

Mark started the meeting at 5:35 PM PST

Sarah had a few items to discuss before getting into the nationals report:

The BOD voted unanimously:
To accept the GWPCA National Specialty Show as the designated show to qualify for Cruft’s KC Dog Show in England. The BOB, BOS and any AOM’s will be eligible as a U. S. International qualifier as will the same awards at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

Sarah reported that the AKC had requested an updated membership list with a designated breeder referral contact. The AKC is going to start cross referencing the AKC website classifieds for people saying they are club members when they are not. The list is not for the referral/breeder listing site. Sue sent the membership list to Sarah and it was submitted to AKC with Bernee Brawn as breeder referral.

Laura Reeves reported on:
Standard Review Membership vote for Standard Proposals
Laura reported from the Accountants:
·
303 ballots received
·
3 ballots invalidated with less than 10 items checked
·
5 ballots were each counted one time although more than one name was on the envelope.

300 total valid ballots
200 votes needed to pass by a 2/3 majority, as required by the ByLaws.
·
200 votes to change Hind Quarters
·
202 to change Gait

These were the only 2 sections to pass.

The recount performed by members showed a slight discrepancy between the recount and accountant’s numbers. After the review the BOD support the account’s results.
Mark stated he would make an announcement via the Wire News and the website.

2006 Nationals
Ellis Herz joined the meeting at 6:00 PM PST to address the 2006 Nationals.

Ellis met last week with the owners of the field trial land. Everything is coming along fine with them.

The budget for the nationals will be done this weekend and submitted within the week. The hold up was knowing how many judges we would need to fly in, some show numbers among other items.

The food at the field trial will be catered for all meals at the clubhouse. It is the hope of the host club that with the other clubs sponsoring a dinner instead of the usual happy hour we can provide free dinners all week. To be sure there is enough food the host club decided that people would still need to register and get a ticket. Those that don’t pre register will have to pay and will be fed after ticket holders are fed.

Field trial judges have been contacted. Only one needs to be flown in and it is in the works to get the best flight price as possible.

Ellis described the club house with a fully equipped kitchen and showers.
Ellis has arranged via Kathi Boyd to have a 4,000 gallon water truck on site. He is planning to have someone come out and dump trailers sometime during the week. There are no hook ups at the camping area.

Merchandise is going to be handled by an outside source that Ellis is meeting with next week. They will take care of everything and will have a website that people can pre-order. We have decided on a logo for “Wild Wire West” but there will be other logo’s to choose from. We do NOT have to have a minimum order and will NOT have to pay for any unsold items!

Food on the show grounds for Friday will be handled by Jo Anne Steffes.

A wrangler is being secured for the field trial. Ellis is waiting to hear from one to see if he can get back from GSP nationals in time. Ellis also has another wrangler that will be available.

Birds have been secured and Ellis is going to have them delivered in two batches to be sure they are “fresh” and not sitting around in pens all week for the championship. The grounds hold birds very well.

Both show and field trial motels have been secured. The filed trial motel is rather odd in the fact that as they book the rate goes up. Ellis is planning to put that in the Wire News to alert everyone to that fact. They generally run $59/night. There are many other motels near by, but some do not take dogs. The show Host motel is the only motel with banquet facilities and they are newly rebuilt.

Awards and ribbons are in process.
There was much discussion about the mid week trip to Yosemite National Park. It was born with the intent of an activity for all to enjoy and relax. It was decided to let the membership know how close they are to the park and each could take side trips on their own.
Ellis has secured boarding for horses near the show grounds for a nominal fee.

Ellis needs the BOD to agree to his opening a separate bank account for the national event. The BOD agreed this would be fine.

2007 National Events report-
(Laura Reeves reported)
The grounds in Virginia where the AKC Championship were held were discussed as a possibility and everyone had heard they were great grounds. The other logistics would be rather difficult with members spread out in that area.

The field trial grounds in So. Illinois were discussed at length along with the other logistics. Many good new ideas were brought up. The grounds are now being “booked” with priority to Championships. There is no clubhouse. Show sites were discussed and there are two to choose from. The BOD voted unanimously to have the group in So. Illinois host the 2007 nationals.

2008 National Events report-
(Laura Reeves reported)
The Nebraska Club will be hosting the 2008 national Events.

SEAC Proposal for National Show Judge Selection-Mark Sargent

With little discussion a motion was made by Mark Sargent and second by Laura Reeves.
Motion: Accept the proposed SEAC National Show Judge Selection guidelines. The proposal is to be submitted to the Wire News for membership input and comments.

Other Business
Laura suggested and we all agreed to have teleconference meetings every 4-5 weeks since the agendas are getting longer and items need to be addressed in a timely manner.

Rescue-Laura Reeves
Laura Myles and Mary Murray have asked for help in getting Rescue news out and remind the membership that they may donate at any time. Sue volunteered to be the liaison between Jodi and Laura Myles.
A motion was made by Mark Sargent with Laura Reeves second.
Motion: Place a letter in every Wire News with donation contact information.

Motion made to adjourn meeting by Mark Sargent second-Liz Dixon.
Meeting adjourned 4-11-06 8:03 PST

Respectfully submitted by
Sarah Colwell Herz
GWPCA Secretary
