GERMAN WIREHIARED POINTER CLUB OF AMERICA
Tuesday October 12, 2004 Club House Ionia Field Trial Grounds
Annual Board Meeting

Meeting called to order by President, Mark Sargent at 8:40 PM. All board members present, Laura Reeves, Barb Tucker, Sue Mueller, Liz Dixon and Mal Decker. Mike Hemphill was absent.

Minutes of last Teleconference Board meeting were approved as sent to the Board members by all members.

Treasurer’s report: Sue Mueller stated that a complete mailing list was obtained from AKC that are approved to judge the GWP. These mailing labels were then used to send the judges issue of the Wire News to all of those judges. Sue said that this mailing cost the GWPCA approximately $2000.00.She also stated that some of these were returned for wrong addresses and a few because they don’t judge the GWP. Discussion followed regarding the increase cost and is that issue actually is important to the judges? Also discussed was that maybe the mailing of this issue should come from the Judges Education budget? Mark proposed that in order to help reduce costs maybe letter should be sent to all of the eligible judges, with a return postcard that can be returned to Sue if the judge wants to receive this issue. The Board voted to approve this idea.

There was a discussion and brief overview of committee reports. The Board felt that the Standards committee was working very diligently to get information to all of the members. Rescue was encouraged to get information on the website ASAP to expedite adoption. All completed adoption and foster forms are to be sent to Laura Myles.

Unfinished Business:

2005 Nationals: Liz asked if an affiliate club can hold more than one Specialty per year. Laura Reeves felt that they can, but the secretary will contact AKC for an official answer. The 2005 Nationals show needs a show secretary?

2006: Presentation was given to all Board members at the Annual meeting. Some discussion followed.

2007: Mal Decker reiterated that Del Valley is interested in hosting these Nationals.

New Business:

Discussion on the proposal that all Field Event Secretaries, Chairmen and committee members must be members of the National Club! It was felt by the majority that this should be mandatory, especially for field events. For the shows this would be very difficult as Show Secretary’s can not show their dogs, whereas Field Chairs and Secretary’s are able to run their dogs in those events. This proposal. Passed by majority. Therefore in the future all Field Chairs, Secretary’s and committee members must be members of the Nationals Club!

It was also discussed that several affiliate clubs are no longer viable; therefore they should be removed as active clubs on the website and in the Wire News. Laura to handle this.

AKC in conjunction with United Airlines is offering 5-15% off published fares to anyone traveling to or from and AKC event with a 2 night minimum stay. Fanciers may obtain these certificates by calling United Special Reservations at 800 521-4041 and using the code “5155P.” Also certificates for 50% discounted travel will be available through AKC Parent Clubs for any dogs flying as “checked baggage” in medium or large crates on United domestic flights. Passengers holding these certificates and with dogs in these size crates will pay $100.00 each way as opposed to $200.00, here within the Continental US.

An agenda item for the next teleconference meeting will be, How do we develop an archives of all minutes of past Annual meeting, Board meetings and any committee meetings i.e., FEAC, Standard Review, Versatility….

There being no further business motion made by Laura Reeves and seconded by Liz Dixon to adjourn the meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 10:05 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Barb Tucker
Secretary GWPCA
