The GWPCA is seeking a Wire~News Editor

If you are looking for a challenge and a great way to express your creativity, the GWPCA board is seeking a club member with time and dedication to take on management of the Wire~News. This position can be a really fun job and a great way to interact with GWPCA members but it is also challenging with deadlines. The publication is one of the club's most tangible benefits. At this time, the editor will work closely with Lacey Wilson who reviews and inputs the ads and other documents into a sophisticated publishing software for uploading to the printer. Following are the requirements and responsibilities.

 

¨ Must be able to spend up 50 - 75 hours per quarter on WN duties and reliably meet deadlines.

¨ Must be familiar with the GWPCA and its members, and attend some, preferably all, National events.

¨ Must have a computer with Microsoft Office and high-speed Internet access.

¨ Background in print media and basic design skills are helpful, but not required.

¨ Initiate article ideas and find members or contributors to submit them.

¨ Gather articles and advertisements via email through interaction with a variety of club members

¨ Good grammar and language skills needed to edit submissions for clarity and punctuation.

¨ Collect money for advertising and forward to GWPCA Treasurer.

¨ Write editor's column for each issue and determine page order

¨ Forward all documents to publisher

National Events Coordinator- Job Description

¨ Oversee all national events and regional specialty.

¨ Coordinate with local club if holding a specialty in conjunction with the Nat.

¨ Coordinate with both Show Chair and Field Chairs

¨ Oversee site choices for all events

¨ Choose Committee heads

¨ Report progress to the Board

The purpose of having a NEC and standing National Events Committees is to standardize the running of all the National Events and to streamline the redundant tasks that occur each year. It is not the intention of the NEC to take control of the National Events away from the hosting club, but rather to be an overseer and a resource for the host club.

GWP U- Job Description

The GWPCA Board of Directors is seeking a chair for GWP University committee to take over the reins from Joy Brewster.

The first GWPU was held with the National Events in ’08 with the goal of offering educational opportunities to the breeders, owners, exhibitors and members of the GWPCA. The University is modeled on a similar program used by the Basset Hound Club of America. It is one of the many services provided to GWPCA members.

The Chair of the Committee develops topics of interest and educational opportunities for the GWPCA membership at the annual National Events. Topics for the event are proposed to the NEC, then forwarded to the BOD for approval. The Chair plans, organizes and schedules the event in conjunction with the National Events Committee and Local Host Club (when appropriate).

The position requires an understanding of the issues of interest to breeders and owners, ability to work independently and as part of the National Events Committee team, willingness to contact speakers, negotiate contracts and solicit input from the membership.
